Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Derail McClain Show. I'm your host, derail McClain. Today is March the 6th of 2024 and you are listening to episode number 395. I am five episodes away from the 400th episode and I'm actually fairly excited about it. So let's get into some of the horse race politics stuff, some stuff that I found very significant, that I think you would also find significant.

Speaker 1:

Number one Donald Trump and Joe Biden really smacked down their perspective opponents in what yesterday we call Super Tuesday. Donald Trump wiped the floor with the former South Carolina governor and former ambassador, nikki Haley, and Donald Trump won every single state on Super Tuesday except Vermont. And when you got to a lot of the polling numbers, it actually looked like that a lot of Democrats had and independents had actually voted for Nikki Haley. So it, when it all came down to it, when all everything has been counted and said, donald Trump won every single state in the Republican primary except Vermont and the District of Columbia, who, of course, is not a state when it comes down to the Democratic side, joe Biden won every single primary except American Samoa, where, where a local actually beat Joe Biden in American Samoa to win those nominees. So they will both go to the convention with a certain number of delegates and so on and so forth. Now, that being said, what ended up happening is remember, nikki Haley said that all this stuff about people having the right to vote and so on, and ever. So Nikki Haley has officially dropped out of the race now and the matchup, for all intent purposes, is clear it is going to be Donald John Trump versus Joseph R Biden for the 2024 presidential election. So the debate in the debate and the race that it seems like most of the country was yelling no, we do not want. We are still going to get. We're gonna get a very rare thing a presidential rematch. So for, for, for, even though Joe Biden is the sitting president, is the incumbent, donald Trump was the former president and is technically an incumbent as well, so we will get the rematch. So all the yelling about elections being rigged and so on and so forth it is going to, we're gonna have to, as they say, run it back in 2024.

Speaker 1:

Well, something else that was very significant comes out of this state of Michigan. So in Michigan is a very important state. Joe Biden won this state of Mississippi, michigan, I'm sorry by a very, very slim majority, very, very slim margins In the state of Michigan in the primary election, within just two weeks of this thing popping, but popping up, there was a not this person type of vote or uncommitted type of vote. So we anybody else but this person in the in the Democratic primary and Joe Biden hasn't been worried about this because there was 100,000 people who voted uncommitted, people who are not committed, and these are Democratic type voters. And let me tell you the type of Democratic like voters, even liberal, where very, very left person, a documenter of Fahrenheit 9-11, michael Moore, pushed the not committed ticket and a hundred thousand people decided that they would actually get up, go to a primary and Democratic primary and vote not this person, and a hundred thousand people in Michigan did that. So, because Michigan is a purple state, this is a very big deal.

Speaker 1:

When it comes to Joe Biden and Him having to shore up the Democratic Party, who a lot of the young voters are very upset. And guess what? Guess what? They are upset about something that you would think, which is very rare did they be concerned about, and it's actually foreign policy. Most of the people who voted non-committed were upset because of Joe Biden's ties to Benjamin Netanyahu. The current conflict in Israel, in Gaza, the current conflict between the Israeli and Palestinians and what they see as Joe Biden's unwaiving support to what people are calling a genocide. So Michigan actually has a very large number of Muslim voters, and the Muslim voters came out in droves against Joe Biden. But it wasn't just the Muslim voters, it was also the young voters and even some of the Independent leaning voters who said not, in our name, you need to demand an immediate ceasefire to everything going on between Israel and Palestine or we will not support you for president of the United States. Now, that is a big deal when it comes to American domestic policy, looking at American Foreign policy, which is not really America, it's America's allies but then looking at the aid that we give to said ally and saying we will not be complicit, we will not be complicit and if that means we will not be giving you our votes. So that was something very surprising in the takeaway of these primary elections.

Speaker 1:

Now, just sticking with the election talk Something that is a big deal, no matter what you think of it, and that is something that is going to come out of Arizona. And that is something that shocked people and and on Tuesday as well which was that there was a decision by Arizona representative and and this was a big deal because it's very rare for somebody so young to do this, but at any rate, senator Kristen Sinema of Arizona said she would not seek reelection Arizona and she has ended. Over a year. Speculation about her future shows. A decision by Sinema, who actually left the Democratic Party in 2022 to become an independent, clears the field for a two-person race, most likely between representative Ruben Gallego and Carrie Lake. May very Trump supporting style of a Republican. Now, her announcement ended a year about her future and it was she actually said in a video was because she chose civility, understanding, listening to, working together to get stuff done. I believe the Senate the end of this year and she said in a video announced that miss senators, miss Sinema's first term Senator, who left the Democratic Party in 22 to face face potential long odds in a three-way race For reelection as Democrats had fight to maintain control the Senate, recent polling found her tailing both Gallego and Carrie Lake and the favorite for the Republican nomination who is it accolade of? The former president, donald John Trump. Her decision to bow out Now sets up a more direct showdown, like a between Gallego and Lake, though Mark Lam, a sheriff, is also seeking the Republican nomination. Now I'm gonna. I don't Did.

Speaker 1:

The Kristen Sinema thing is very interesting to me. If you look at her rise and, let's just say, fall when it comes to politics, kristen Sinema rose is almost a A hardcore left figure. When she first came into politics she was in was was in the code pink era of the Democratic Party, or the coat pink wing of the Democratic Party, I should say she famously had videos and and speeches blasting. You know, joe Lieberman, she was at one point time Accused by the right wing of being a witch because, you know, she was into this wicking coven thing. She was for all intents and purposes of the squad before there was a squad. And when she got to the Senate, when it is up, happening was and this is just my Observation on the matter. When people like Chris and cinema say that they sought bipartisanship, well, that is a code for they Got bought out by the donor class. So when they, when they talk about bipartisanship, what they mean is corporate interests and she became a very corporately interested type of Democrat. And in the age of the, the left and the right, where we sit now, where both parties Are somewhat broadly identified by the left and right flanks.

Speaker 1:

That ship does not sail. There is no room for your Kristen cinema. There is no room for your Joe mansion, there is no room for your Mitt Romney's, there is no room for your Paul Ryan's. Everybody has taken the extreme left and the stream right flank and this is where we sit. So I don't know if Kristen cinema Actually looked at the trajectory of the way the country was going and said I don't like that and I want to step down, or if she decided to look this this is. This ship is no longer worth sitting on. It is circling the drain. I already got my money. I'm cannot run against Kerry Lake and run as a manby-pandy, middle-of-the-roader type person in Arizona. The era of John McCain type policies is over, so I'm just gonna take my bags and go home. But either way, she is out, joe mansion is out, mitt Romney is out and a lot of people like them who would hold what you know, loosely speaking, that middle ground is, is out. So she will be leaving at the end of the year. And this is Coming on the back of a lot of other high-profile exits.

Speaker 1:

The last show we talked about the grim reaper, mitch McConnell, who had been in power in the Republican Party, at foot stable in Republican Party, came In at the same time as the Gipper Ronald Reagan. He is also going to leave at the end of his term. We remember on the Democratic side Nancy Pelosi stepping down from power. This is somewhat the changing of the guard and I don't know, I don't. I don't want to say I'm glad to see it. But I will just say this when it comes to what the general public wants, it with the general public needs, I Would like us to wrestle with if we think that the Joe mansions and the cinemas in the Romney's in the Rions of the world were actually going to deliver the material goods, or it was a time for somebody else to pick up the mantle and Pass the baton onto them and get to running in the right direction. So, kristen cinema gone, joe mansion gone, mitt Romney gone, mitch McConnell gone. Donald Trump still here. Joe Biden still here. Let the showdown for the future of the republic known as the United States of America Begin.

Speaker 1:

Has anybody ever told you you were over-opinionated? How about this one? You can talk about everything you like, but don't talk about religion, don't talk about faith, don't talk about politics. My name is Jerome McClane, host of the Jerome McClane Show, and I want to introduce you to a show called Over-opinionated with my friend from Southwest Virginia, josh Scott. Josh has always been told he has been over-opinionated. He always tried to hold back these opinions, but he tried to back them up when he had to say something with facts and logic. Since he's grown up in many ways, he had to change a lot of his views and his opinions, as a lot of people should. He's not a millionaire from Fox News or CNN. He's just a work-hardworking, blue-collar type of guy. Give Josh Scott a shot. And over-opinionated with Josh Scott. You can find him on patreoncom slash over-opinionated at 6.79. You can also check him out on Twitter at nrv, underscore guy79. Over-opinionated with Josh Scott, where he is, this soft-spoken guy telling you the truth.

Speaker 1:

So, guys, remember, the best way to be charitable and make podcasts more successful is to be in support of our sister podcast, which are over-opinionated, with Josh Scott and the Luns B Show with T-Bone and Chick-Bru. The one show you're going to get some more politics. You're going to get some spiritual things. The other show you're going to learn about some cooking. You're going to get some laughs. You're going to get some fun analysis about things you didn't know, your book of everything. I think that if you are a fan of this show and you want to keep the conversation going and these other two shows do provide you with a way to support the other sister shows in our network so when it gets back to our horse race politics, we're going to talk about something very briefly, but it is going to need to be discussed, that is, the Supreme Court handed Trump a victory in the Colorado 14th Amendment Balance Challenge.

Speaker 1:

The Supreme Court Rue Colorado cannot disqualify if I'm a President Trump from the ballot under the 14th Amendment. Its erections ban a historic decision that preserves Trump's ability to seek a second presidential term. Now look on the legal merits. I cannot say that I agree with the Supreme Court on the legal merits. I've been listening to a lot of analysis and I kind of think the Supreme Court, in this spectrum, did the thing that they safely were going to do, which is they kicked that question back to Congress.

Speaker 1:

Now there is a Senator who picked that up, jamie Raskin, who said all right, if you guys say that this power is solely left up to Congress and not an individual state, to say that somebody could be disqualified from the ballot, then he has put a bill on the floor to say that Donald Trump committed an insurrection and therefore cannot run for President of the United States, or is it ineligible to be President of the United States, etc. Now that legislation has a snowball's chance in hell and actually being passed in the Republican House and going anywhere. But I'm pretty sure he will scream in all the appropriate places to get some funds raised for whatever his kick is going to be. But it's not going anywhere and I want to postulate to you I'm going to argue to you and present the case that it actually should not go anywhere and I'm just going to leave it at this. If you believe, as the Democrats have been saying, that the former president is a threat to democracy, is so on and so forth, that this is the end of vote, this vote is the most pivotal and that if you don't do this, this may be your last election you know those Michael Moore types. If you actually believe that, do you think that it is a good precedent to set that, instead of letting the people decide whether they think this is a existential threat, you make the courts step in and do the decision making for you, and I would say that that is the wrong way to go.

Speaker 1:

I want Democrats to think in a historical narrative way, back to and this is going to be a long time ago. I know we don't like our history. I want you to go back to Bush v Gore when the Supreme Court who was seen then asa, conservative Supreme Court and today O'Connor stepped in and she blah, blah, blah. She wanted to retire and she wanted to retire under Republican president because her husband was sick, so she came in and appointed George Bush as president. Yeah, I've read all those analysis. I've been hearing that stuff for years.

Speaker 1:

Do you think that it was appropriate at that point in time for Supreme Court to step in and stop the vote counting in Florida? If you do not think that was legitimate and you don't think the court should have stepped in and stop the voters in Florida from deciding, then you in the same breath cannot say the Supreme Court should step in and stop the voters from deciding when it comes to Trump versus Biden. If it was wrong with the Supreme Court to step in and stop Bush v Gore, then it is wrong for the Supreme Court to step in and stop Trump versus Biden. I think the Supreme Court Even if the legal merits Didn't seem like it was on their side when it comes to the state's rights to say who can be on their ballot, and so on, and so For I think, for the good and the greater good of the country and the narrative that we are going to be setting, you need to let the people decide. There is no doubt, no doubt whatsoever, that people know who Joe Biden is and that people know who Donald Trump is. If you have a problem with each of these individuals, you do your voting with your feet. The courts constantly trying to step in and and and tilt the scales is is Makes us less of a republic, less of a representative democracy and more like a banana Republic. So I think, as difficult as it is, there is no get out of jail free card for these Democrats. So how about you have to do the difficult thing? Are you gonna have to decide what you're gonna deliver to the people Because the courts constantly stepping in to bail you out? That ship is not going to sail. So the Supreme Court is.

Speaker 1:

A lot of people, of course, will say the Supreme Court there was appointed by Donald Trump. Most of them. Yada, yada, yada. This was a unanimous decision. All the judges voted, all of the liberal justices and the conservative justices Voided, voted in unanimity that Donald Trump has every right to be on the ballot in Colorado, and other states have actually popped up two more. It's an oh. He can't be on our ballot either, and so this is up to the Congress. This is up to the Congress. You, you, you, you want to claim the fortune to be missed? Says this we're gonna have to decide exactly what that amendment meant and what it said, and I would suggest that Americans Do that thing that we all claimed we did during COVID and Do your own research. Do your own research. But as of right now, it is looking like the courts are not going to come and save the Democrats From the big bad wolf of Donald Trump. They're gonna have to put some policies upfront and center and we're gonna have to rerun the reelection that a lot of people it did not want.

Speaker 1:

Let me somewhat turn this conversation around in a bit to talk about something that I don't normally talk about myself. So, as everybody knows, if you are a fan of the show that I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I last year was blessed to get promoted to the rank of Brown Belt under Gustavo Machado and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The Norfolk Academy in Norfolk, virginia, is where I train. I was able to go down to a tournament. I traveled with some teammates to North Carolina and was able to pull out the victory and win my Brown Belt debut in a tournament called New Breed in the state of North Carolina. So I want to thank you all for supporting me in my Jiu Jitsu journey and know that I have not been taking it for granted and for waste and I was able to again travel, compete and pull out the victory. So yours truly is on the right path when it comes to his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey, as well as his podcast journey.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if you guys are aware that this month is actually considered Woman's History Month, so in that spirit, I actually wanted to do something different, and that is to give you 25 women who are important in the Bible and just a brief summary over the next few days, and I'm going to start off with Eve, the mother of all living Now to create the first human being. God formed man from the dust and ground and breathed to his nostrils a breath of life. The creation is called Adam, which in Hebrew means both man and human. This causes some scholars to interpret the reference in Genesis to mean the first person was an Andromous, but the person is generally seen as a male. Now, god's creation cannot live alone. So God puts Adam to sleep and, using one of his human ribs, raw material creates a woman. This is Eve.

Speaker 1:

Genesis tells us how the two initially live as equals in the Garden of Eden, where all they want is taken care of. Created in God's own image, they are entrusted with stewardship over the land. And in the middle of this paradise those stands two trees the tree of life and the tree of knowledge, of good and evil. These God instructs. The couple cannot be touched. Yet in the midst of their newborn world, god has also set a subtle serpent who tells the woman that she should eat from the tree of knowledge. Your eyes will be open and the serpent promises, and you will be like God.

Speaker 1:

Eve accepts the fruit, not specifically an apple, though apples have been long associated with the story, but when you actually read the Bible or the Hebrew text, the word apple is not there. But anyway, she takes a bite before giving it to Adam. This is the moment when a million millennia worth of debate would be prompted. In Genesis, the woman simply hands the fruit to the man and acts many scholars interpret as a re-salating the way that a woman in ancient Israelic cultures would have been the traditional preparer of food. They eating the fruit, though, have been interpreted by Christians as a human kind's original sin.

Speaker 1:

The disregard of God's instruction brings down the Lord's raft. Man is destined to toll on a hard and sweaty labor, and upon the woman, adam, and given the name meaning mother of all living God, bestows the ability of her to bear children, which is intended as a physical pain. The Bible also indicates in this section that man is to be indominion and a dominant partner, as a passage that has been taken by some to indicate his right to Lord over his mate. Some scholars have interpreted this warning as specific instructions for the marital bed your desire shall be for your husband and he shall rule over you. But others throughout the ages have seen that in both the cases, and reflection of the ideas about some of the roles between man and woman in society in relation to each other, is their final punishment to the pair banished from paradise Outside of Eden, eve gives birth to numerous children, the most famous being Cain the farmer, being Abel the shepherd, whom his brother kills. Abel's death is the first murder recorded in the Bible. When Eve and Adam are 130 years old, she gives birth to Seth, and then other sons and daughters and the offsprings who start to populate God's earth.

Speaker 1:

Now, just a little beyond the text, there is a figure. If you're into this type of stuff, there's a figure by the name of Lilith, and Lilith is a creature of Jewish lore mentioned by the prophet Isaiah in the 8th century BCE. She is based on a Babylonian Nightmokster and a Storm Demon. Lilith was said to have been molded from earth. She actually claimed equality with him and refused to be subservient. A cult related to Lilith lasted into the common era and is believed that she was a creature who was endangered, pregnant women and children, and that she used men to give birth to demons. Michelangelo seems to have included her as a red-headed, half-woman, half-serpent temptress in the 16th chapel, while Irish novelist James Joyce called her in Ulysses the patron of abortions. More recently, however, lilith has been embraced by modern feminists, who see her story as a symbol of possibility, a more equality and a more equal role for women in society. So, again, this month is Women's History Month, and I'm going to be sharing 25 women who are famous, whose stories have somewhat been ignored in the Bible.

Speaker 1:

I do a lot of reading, and one of the books I'm reading right now is a book called Bernie Sanders and His Own Words, and I'm going to start a second of the show called the Daryl McClain's Book Hour. So let's just read a little bit of this Bernie Sanders and His Own Words. This campaign is not simply about electing me. I hope we accomplish that, some that but it isn't the most important thing. The most important thing is building a political movement in which millions of people who have given up on political process, including a lot of young people, get involved. This was on his grassroots campaign strategy of July 28, 2015. So that is a snippet from a book I'm reading Bernie Sanders and His Own Words 250 Quotes from America's Political Revolutionary.
